Demon possession, for this ep. Dean received a call from a man he and his father had previously helped in a poltergeist case. The brothers were asked to investigate a plane crash with 7 survivors, in which one of the passengers had been possessed by a demon. Listening to the recording from the crashed flight, they heard the words, "no survivors", which didn't make sense at first (since there were survivors), but then they realised that the demon was killing off the remaining passengers, one by one.
Unable to reach one of the previous passengers, a stewardess, in time, they had to follow her onboard. Sam's plan was to find and exorcise the demon while on the plane, but Dean would have to conquer his fear of flights to do so. Sam offered to go alone, but Dean went with him anyway, humming Metallica during take-off to calm himself down. The problem was, they needed to find the demonically-possessed passenger, and it could have been anyone on board. Using a homemade device, Dean detected that it was the co-pilot. They got Amanda, the stewardess from the last crashed flight, to bring the co-pilot out, after which they started on the exorcism, first expelling the demon from its host, then sending it back to hell. During the exorcism, the demon mentioned Jessica to Sam, which still rattled him after.
